LOCAL SMALL BUSINESS OWNER

Operating my own small business in town and growing up here in a family business (Dockside and Colonial Beach Yacht Center) give me the unique experience of dealing with economic growth challenges specific to Colonial Beach.

It is important to help new businesses navigate the town regulations, work with current business on improving efficiency in business license/permit procedures, and draw in new types of business services through incentive programs such as the NN Regional Economic Development Strategy and our local Enterprise Zone.

At this time of economic crisis it is critical we share with our fellow business community to help each other.  Look to my facebook page or blog for tips and webinars on how to apply for the PPP and EIDL loan programs as well as any other useful assistance I can find for our small business owners.

COMMUNITY PLANNER & ADVOCATE

Prior to serving as Vice-Mayor, I served on the CB Planning Commission for 9 years,  trained by the VA Municipal League, and Chair for 3 years (2015-2018) while updating building ordinances and the Capital Improvement Plan. I have a detailed understanding of the Colonial Beach Comprehensive Plan, Business District/Downtown Revitalization Plan and have advised across four previous Town Councils.  I served the US Peace Corps from 2008-2010 in Guatemala as a Municipal Development Volunteer and bring a unique community development skill set.

If elected Mayor I will continue to prove an example for civil discourse and act with respect for the good of our whole community. I will move forward the Planning Commission recommendations on the nearly dozen outstanding items that are awaiting Town Council action: including banning fracking, creating a dog park, town property assessments, a grant/development hire and updates to outdated code.

I most look forward to updating our Comprehensive Plan to look forward into the decade ahead and am committed to creating a Historic District in our downtown.

INVESTING IN TOMORROW

I have an interest in the success of Colonial Beach for the long game. I am not nearing retirement; I am currently investing myself and my livelihood in Colonial Beach to continue to grow here. I recently had a baby boy and look forward to helping develop the Colonial Beach he will grow up in.  I direct several local events, volunteer and attend nearly every community event in town.

Colonial Beach is prime for growth in many ways, through the development of our downtown, investment groups, and with the town taking the charge can direct this growth and prepare for it.  The town can tackle these issues some on their own as well, by finishing the remainder of 8th & 9th street to make possible 80 new build-able lots, improve mobility for golf carts, bicyclists and runners across town, invest in developing our waterfront, form a Parks and Recreation Department and protect our best attributes by looking ahead at inevitable storm water and shoreline issues that must be addressed for further development to occur.
